PERSONAL PROFILES

Ed Gilchrist - Founder

I've has always harboured a desire to achieve a truly meaningful result from my life.

After cultivating a successful career in corporate IT and global business consulting, I took early retirement in order to learn about and work with the voluntary and third sector.

This involvement led me to become Chairman of a local Mencap society, a mentor for gap year students and an inspiration to people affected by poor Mental Health.

I was also able to spend a lot more quality time looking for ways to develop the true potential of my son, who lives with a number of life challenges, including autism and psychosis. My efforts continue to be rewarded by significant progress and optimism.

In recent years, I have seen a change in the way we portray ourselves in the mass media and a negative trend in social attitudes. And this, in spite of the fact that the vast majority of society still genuinely care about making things better. So I created the concept of Capital of Caring from my belief that, by connecting people, communities and organisations through a common vision, we could collectively achieve so much more than separately.

I want to inspire people, through simple ideas, into more positive behaviour.
